In this article, Quan Neloms, a counselor and social studies teacher in the Detroit Public Schools Community District, shares his discovery that despite his hard work and dedication, it takes a village to support children. Quan comes to the realization that for children to feel supported and nurtured throughout their development, individual teachers cannot do it alone. It requires the commitment of other educators, parents and the community at large. It requires us to challenge our beliefs that others are too busy, lack interest or simply are not willing or able to make the commitment to be present for children.
